In Greek and Roman mythology, the satyr was a half-man/half-beast god. Were the ancient gods figments of the imagination or real beings?

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word sa’ir is found fifty-two times. In two cases, sa’ir is translated to “satyr” in the King James Version Bible (Isaiah 13:21 and Isaiah 34:14).

Why do so many cultures have gods that are part human and part animal?  Could there be a connection to the Watchers and their mixed offspring, as mentioned in the Book of Genesis, the Book of Enoch, and the Book of Giants?
